Heber Valley Retreat

The Heber Valley Quilt Guild had a retreat on March 8 and 9 at the Homestead Resort in Midway.   We spent all day Friday and Saturday sewing, eating, classes, etc., etc.  Fun was had by all.  There were about 35 people in attendance.  Everyone went home late at night since we all lived so close.  We even had the regular guild meeting on Friday night so those who were unable to attend the retreat at least had the opportunity to come and see what was going on.

2013 Quilt Days at Legacy village in Layton

Photos have been posted on Flicker. There are too many to post to the blog.  Click on a photo or the underlined title to see the rest of the story!

What a fun two days!  Saturday concluded our festivities celebrating National Quilt Days with three more trunk shows, more demos, and much fun!  All in all, this event was a big success!  Kudos to all the participating guilds and volunteers!  This never would have happened without all of you.  Cindy and Sylvia, your leadership really made everything possible.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Legacy Village for providing the space for our first endeavor of this size!  Everyone was very helpful and made every attempt to help us succeed!  Thank you to the residents who provided antique quilts and their history, and to all those who attended.  It was inspiring to meet and talk to all of you.

National Quilt Day update

Yesterday was a beehive of activity at the Legacy Village in Layton, UT.  Over 100 quilts were hung, boutique items set up, silent auction baskets and mini quilts ready, and everything else that needs to be organized and finished before the show opens!  All of this done in about 3-4 hours!

The quilt show will be open from 10 - 4 today, so if you didn't get there yesterday, come on over today.  Pictures will be posted later, so come back to the blog later.

There were two trunk shows yesterday.  The first one was very special because the quilts belonged to some of the residents.  There were 11 antique quilts shown along with their stories. One of the quilts was 150 years old!  What a treat!

Robin Orchard presented a wonderful trunk show based on her scrap quilting.  Her quilts are always fun to look at and her use of lights, mediums and darks really makes the designs come to life.  This is the way to use all of those fabrics you don't like anymore because little bits of ugly suddenly becomes the perfect piece in the quilt.

Today there will be two more trunk shows.  Marilyn Toone will be showing some of her award winning applique and hand quilted quilts.  Another award winning quilter will be Kaye Evans.  Kaye will be showing a variety of styles and color used in her quilts.  The trunk shows will be presented this afternoon.

More to follow later.....

National Quilt Day(s) Celebration

March 15th, (tomorrow) begins the celebration of National Quilt Day(s) weekend.  Actually, I think it is now an International day of Quilting!  We have certainly revitalized the art of quiltmaking in the last 30+ years.  Quilting has become an art form using fabric as paint and thread as brush....from traditional, contemporary, art, and more recently, the modern approach.  No matter what your skill set there is some form of quilting for everyone to enjoy.

Okay, back to the reason for this post.  Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. will start the celebration at the Legacy Village in Layton, UT.  Free admission, lots of quilts to oh-h-h and ah-h-h over, demos and trunk shows.  Check the full description in the March 6th post below.

Draper and American Fork are also having events scheduled for Saturday, March 16th.  (See previous post)

Some lqs's are having special activities on Saturday as well.

Please send me photos if you go to any of these events or one that isn't listed here.  We love to see and post photos!  Enjoy the weekend and St. Patrick's Day!
