Official Start of Summer

Today is Memorial Day....a day to remember those who served our country so we could remain free.  Sending many thank you's to all the men and women who are protecting this great country.

This would be a great weekend to work on some Quilts of Valor!  Whatever your plans, be safe.

Upcoming Event

This just in from Barb Murdock:

I just got on the website for the Small Town Quilt Show in Midway at the Zermatt, June 26-28 and they have more super deals for this event.  They even have great deals for the hotel!

I signed up for all of the lectures and they ended up costing me less than just the two or three I wanted to go to.

Just thought you might be interested and would want to let your quilting friends know.

I know that they had to cancel two of the national teachers due to low sign ups, but they do have some good specials right now for the rest of the events.

Hopefully some of you will join me.  www.highvalleyarts.org    then click on the small town quilt show.

Quilt Fest

Woohoo!!!  The 2014 Quilt Fest Brochures began to arrive in our mailboxes today!  It is not too early to start thinking about what classes you would like to take.  Looks like there are a lot of fun things in the works, too.  Online registration begins June 3rd.  NOTE: Make sure you have joined or renewed your UQG membership before you try to register.  One class will save you the $20 yearly membership.....AND if you get it sent in before the end of this month (May) you will be in the drawing for a 1935 Singer Featherweight sewing machine.  She is all tuned up and ready to go...maybe even to class with you!  Someone will win, so it might as well be you!

HMQS Winners & updated link

Here is the LINK to the HMQS homepage.  The list of the winning quilts is a clickable link on the right hand side of their homepage.   Congrats to all!  Sue McCarty won best of show with another amazing quilt.  Hopefully I will get some pictures today to post here on the blog.

Sorry for the non-working link earlier.  Not sure why it wouldn't link directly, but try again.  Thanks.

HMQS

The "Home Machine Quilting Show" begins tomorrow!!  Today is set-up day for all the vendors, quilts, and special exhibits.  There is an enormous amount of work involved in a show of this size.  A multitude of volunteers and vendors were busy getting booths set up so we can all drool over the new fabrics, machines, and gadgets.  There will be about 200 special exhibit quilts to see along with all of the judged quilts and wearables.  It seemed like complete chaos with cars, vans and trucks with trailers coming in and out of the exhibition hall, but by tomorrow morning everything will be in place and ready for your enjoyment.  So, get your cameras, walking shoes, and wallets ready.

Oh, yes!  The show is at the South Towne Exhibition Center in Sandy, UT.  The show opens at 10 a.m. Thurs., Fri, and Sat.  It closes at 5 p.m. Thurs. and Friday, and 4 p.m. on Sat.  The awards ceremony will be tomorrow (Thurs) at 12:30 p.m.  Hope to see you all there!
